I have read several books in the "Maggody Series" and have been very entertained with them. This one, not so much. I am giving it two stars as some of my favorite Maggody denizens are humorously, somewhat lovingly, portrayed. The new "Big City" characters have few redeeming traits and are more mean spirited than humorous. The murder plot just doesn't exist. The ending is a muddle and I didn't feel it worth the effort to try to "unmuddle" it. I will continue with the series, but now with dampened enthusiasm.

I love Arly Hanks and her Arkansas town. These books are light, cozy, but very interesting reads for me.
Love all of her books. My husband reads them too for the humor
I like to read these for something light. They are always fun, lighthearted, with a good mystery. Each can be read alone. Have fun!
Comic, not cozy, mystery, bringing the somewhat caricatured characters of Maggody, Arkansas, to Manhattan. As humorous as readers expect from Joan Hess's mysteries, but the Maggody series does include a bit of obscene/profane language and therefore, in my mind, does not qualify as cozy. It's a quick and easy read, and fun while it lasts.
Love every book I read in this series. Maggody sounds like just the place for a vacation. Laugh after Laugh, and aloud. What a great cast of characters. If you feel blue pick up one of these books and you'll soon feel better.

I have the entire collection of the Maggody Series by Joan Hess so I must like them!! Arly Hanks is the Arkansas 'hillbilly' version of Stephanie Plum so that gives you an idea of the antics that are involved in the stories. I'm glad that I was able to buy the entire series through . I have more than 450 titles in my Paper White so I am an avid reader. If you enjoy Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series I know that you will also find Arly Hanks and the 774 population of Maggody, Arkansas making you shake your head, too. Rudy Bee, Arly’s mother, wins a baking contest and is sent to Manhattan to be in a bake-off. The first night there she lands in jail for shooting a policeman, so Arly has to hop a plane and go back to city she left behind. The F.B.I. and local police can’t figure out who is killing the contestants and it’s up to Arly. This book has an interesting plot and I love the eccentric characters in this series.
